I watched Monday Night (pre-season) Football last night and it left me with a killer headache that lasted until mid-morning. The game was between the Atlanta Falcons and the Cincinnati Bengals. What I *saw* was a pretty good pre-season football game. Chad Johnson, as annoying as he can be, was just a real delight to watch last night, both on and off the field. Carson Palmer proved to me again that he is the third best quarterback currently playing the game, the Dan Marino of his time. But what truly impressed the bejeezus ought of me, was Joey Harrington. When the Lions drafted that boy, I knew he *could* be a great quarterback. Too bad he had the Millen machine to work with (think an old 60's Ford pickup with a low geared tranny and a leaking engine sucking all the torque.) It was nice ... beyond nice ... to see Harrington take charge of a team that lost it's great super weapon and show both players and fans that the Falcons were not, and are not, Michael Vick. The game was a lot of fun to watch.
No, what induced the headache was having to listen to all the hell-spawned wailing and gnashing of teeth over the mighty fallen hero, Michael Vick. Can the team recover? Will the town recover? Is the Universe rent to its very core? Doesn't his unscripted apology absolve him of his unscripted crimes mistakes? Will Vick play football again? Will he perform miracles and shit gold that he be sainted from his prison cell? And what of the children? WHAT OF THE FUCKING CHILDREN!!!???
Just recently, some guy called me judgmental. In some cases, I really am. A lot of the wingnuts call me intolerant because that's their knee jerk reaction to everything and they don't know any better. At times, I'm guilty as charged ... and this is one of them. I'm over and done with Michael fucking Vick.
There was obviously a buttload of evidence that this guy committed crimes of horrific violence, and ran a gambling racket that obviously qualified for the nation's anti-racketeering laws. But somehow, this all gets washed away because the asshole admits to "mistakes" (his word)? Uhh, no. Mikey says he needs to grow up, that his actions were immature. Heheh, yeah. Electrocuting, slashing, drowning and strangling animals is just a child's mistake, fer shur, not to mention betting on watching those beasts kill each other, knowingly in violation of about a dozen state and federal laws. This wasn't immaturity. All Vick did was mew out the plaintive cry of ... we must think of the childrens, and I am one. No. That shithead was an overpaid athlete entertainer who had the delusion of being above the law, and his plaintive cries are proving him correct (not to mention those mind-numbingly asinine enough to *want* him on their TVs again.) But he has found Jebus, and Jebus will forgive him. Fine. I believe in the separation of church and state, and Jesus doesn't sit a federal bench. Throw the book at the asswipe. Let Jesus be concerned with the heavenly laws he broke, and let him pay the full penalty for the American ones he showed no respect for.
Here's what I want. I want the man imprisoned for the maximum sentence. If, by the terms of his rich-man's deal, that's only two years, then two years it should be. I won't consider that justice (what would some backwoods hick, whose best shirt was a stained wifebeater get for the same plea, one wonders.) And I want him banned from football for life. Period. End of game. It's time to grow up, Michael. He was an entertainer. An athlete to be sure, but that isn't what he got paid for, now was it? He got paid to entertain with his athletic prowess. How entertaining does the NFL feel it needs to be, that it would allow a guy who slaughtered animals to thrill folks for money? Maybe, in three years, when he comes back as a Raider, he could choke a puppy before a live audience. That ought to get the viewers, right? I'm (not) sorry, but the only separating the NFL from the NBA and MLB is that the NFL seems to have some kind of standards held high before it slips into the domain shared by professional wrestling. Those of us who are fans hold high people like Manning, Montana, Elway, Payton, Strahan. We desire the illusion of the noble warrior. Vick has lost that ... and the NFl will do itself a grave disservice by ever allowing this guy on a field again. Vick needs to go bye-bye, become a sad and tragic chapter in the history of professional football.
And what I want the most is to quit hearing about the guy. Shut up about the felon. I don't want to be inundated with Michael Vick news every fucking time the Falcons play a game. I don't need the latest update as Vick awaits sentencing for the heinous crimes he committed. He's a confessed felon, not a football player. I, and I'm not alone, am fucking sick of having to watch the National Felons league. If they are criminals, kick them out like Tank, and don't look back. I won't.
I've always thought he was overrated and I think it's funny how popular Jesus becomes to criminals after they've been caught too.
I agree with you - never reinstate him to the NFL.

The Wolf gives it to Vick.

Funny picture, but in poor taste for such a family friendly post ... ;-)
And seriously, Swede. Please learn to leave a proper embedded link. Thanks.

I just figured the grade schoolers that read you would be too lazy to type the address in.

Uhh, Swede, that's a nice try except that *I* embedded the link for you. There's very good reasons not to type links (or copy and paste them) into your nav bar every time. I use my navigation drop down as a "frequent sites visited" tool for those URLs I have no wish to put in my links sections. The last thing I want is to have it all cluttered up with one-off links from you that I will never visit again. If you don't know what I'm talking about, that's fine. I'm sure they'll explain it to you ... when you get beyond grade school.

OK I'll try again now.
Did I get to go on to Jr. High?

Michael Vick, isn't he a victim of racial prejudices?
It's playin that way down in Dixie. I did have a link, but since I don't know how to "imbed" I sho as heck ain't puttin it out here. No, sir, I can take the hint.
As for John Elway, this Baltimore Colt fan still wishes he got hit by a bus.
