Seriously Bad Mood

One week.  Less than seven full days.  That's all that remains until the most God-awful incompetent, unreflective power-drunk asshole ever to sit as POTUS will become a memory.  And that's part of my problem; I have a very good memory.  It would be pleasant to put the positive spin on, self delusion leading to happiness no doubts, and think of marvelously sparkle sun-shiny it will be when the guy who trashed the place is thrown out with the trash.  And that would be the delusion.  Chimpy McWorthless and Darth Cheney will be gone, but the trash remains.

All forms of reminiscense about #43 can be found on the web.  A few are even favorable, though most of those have little to do with supporting W's legacy and a great deal to do with pointing fingers at libruls for our BDS.  Looky Looky, Bush did stuff 'bout AIDS in Africa!  Like what?  Threw a bunch of money at abstinance education and cheap drugs at the continent?  Yup, his administration surely did that, and has completely ignored the ongoing genocides in Darfur and the Congo.  But hell, what's a little weaponization of rape when you're battling a a lethal  STD?  I guess the small stuff can be ignored when looking to salvage a legacy from the maw of abject failure.

Bush has solidified our standing in the world.  Israel's Prime Minister Olmert clarified that when he pointed out that we are his fucking bitch and when he says jump, Bush whimpers "how high"?  I guess enslaving our national policy to Israel is one way to bring about Mid-East peace.  Bush also has overseen the end of global warming.  Just ask a '9-11 Truther' who works for Pravda.

There is no getting around it.  This guy has been a disaster of almost biblical proportion.  City laid to waste?  Seen it.  Countries destroyed seemingly at the will of the Almighty.  Ayup.  An economy in tatters.  Uhuh.  Enron, WorldCom, trillion dollar bailouts to the rich while our jobs are stolen and sold.  All there.  World terrorism on the rise, our military stretched to breaking and other countries telling us what to do?  Facts.  At no point would I claim that Bush caused it all (okay, some of it, he surely did.)  But he was the POTUS, and worse ever than handling his job maliciously, he handled it with an unparalleled degree of self-assured ignorance and almost astounding incompetence.  This guy would have failed at running a hot-dog stand.

Congress has seemingly decided to at least acknowledge the horror, though they seem perfectly comfortable to let bygones be.  The press seems more than willing to forget, at least such that we forget their Grima Wormtongue-like roll in this farce of the last 8 years.  And simply put, the new President is going to have his hands too full to preside over the collective finger-pointing and general WTF! that a serious investigation of 43's collosal failures would entail.  That is not an effort to excuse Obama for not seeking justice; it's just an acknowledgment of a basic truth, the true gravity of the situation in which America finds itself.  If you leave a big enough mess, you can escape consequence while those who still care clean up after you.  (Most 5 year olds learn that at some point, so it should be no mystery that Bush knows it well.)

Sadly, the mess still remains.  I would love to be optimistic.  I hunger for all the good news on the horizon.  I'm just not seeing a whole lot of that. What I did see was just this, the absolute failure of Bush's tenure.  I've been writing online for over 9 years now, and blogging for over 5.  It's easy for me to say "I told you so" because, for fucks sake, I TOLD YOU SO!  (Okay, probably not you directly, or you, but certainly I told you...)  I was not alone in pointing out that Bush was destined to fulfill his obvious legacy of failure.  He is, was and will remain incompetent, thoroughly and utterly.  The facts were obvious and spoken, and yet twice this nation ignored them, or got distracted or LOOK!  SHINY!  We should have known better, and now that the end is near, we pretend that it wasn't that bad and the boo-boo will be all better.  That puts me in a seriously bad mood.  So, if I snap or am short at anyone, I hope that you will forgive me.

Yes, Wulfgar!, we'll be cleaning up Georgie's mess for decades.

Still, I'm in a good mood and plan to party hardy on inauguration night (I had to work election night so missed all the frivolity here in Missoula.)

What's important now is for progressives to keep the pressure on Obama. Looks like he's spending most of his time courting conservatives, which I guess he has to do, to a degree.

Progressives played a major role in getting Obama elected because they wanted CHANGE. He needs to be reminded of this -- over and over and over.
