Some of the Love and Some of the Hate
You know, Senator Baucus is really pissing me off ... because he won't just consistently piss me off.
He votes away Congressional war powers to the Incompetent in Chief. Pissed.
He supports the Patriot Act ... twice, against the will of Montanans. That is, before he doesn't support it. Pissed.
He won't take a strong stand against any crony-nominee the administration offers up. Pissed.
He refuses to support efforts to streamline the bloated highway bill. Pissed.
And yet, he refused to support raising the federal debt limit. He was the detonator on the torpedo that sunk Bush's mad plan to sell Social Security to Wall Street. When Burns talks a good fight about necessary appropriations for Montana, Baucus has a good record, providing money for Hwy 2 across the high-line and fighting for the St. Mary's Viaduct. I just wish this guy would be a consistent asshole such that he wouldn't confuse me so.
Just when I'm again getting all grumbly about Max, and wishing that Paul Richards would choose to take him down in '08, he hands the state Democrats an enormous gift. Burns talks all Montana like tough about the administration's plans to sell off the West to corporate buddies, but Max takes the lead and does something about it. What Burns weakly tried to spin as a Republicant issue, Max boldly claims for the Democrats.
Dammit, Max, I wish I knew how to quit you!
In other news, as I intimated, John Morrison *really* needs to stand up and put himself strongly forward. This news is bad for him. Here's a hint, my friend: Montana, and the West, is all about rising to the challenges of adversity. We are pioneers, who stupidly left every comfortable place on the planet to come to the mountains and make our way. Your mountain just got taller. Rise to the occasion or go down quicker than a $20 crank whore in Cheyenne. Your choice, dude.
Finally, Sara posted in a comment at Matt's place that she is going to Boomershoot. Having just acquired a .300 Win Mag, I couldn't be more jealous.
Maybe it would help to remember how many times he pisses you off, versus how many times he gets one right - and how important those wrong ones are, versus the right one.

The wind blows Max, as you've noticed.
Max tends to vote with the sitting President, so I like him best under a GOP administration, and like him least when the Democrats run things.
But I like him regardless.
