Well, you can throw another meaningless word on the burn pile, (everybody who grew up in Montana knows what a burn pile is; its for clearing trash and rubbish). The word we can now incinerate is "Debate".
I seriously doubt I will be watching the epic struggle tonight. Its a joke. I read the 32 page PDF today, which outlines the rules for this comic excuse of an interactive press conference. What will be presented tonight is just like "Everybody Loves Raymond". It's scripted, its well hyped before hand, with all manner of folks telling you what you should look for. It will be well critiqued afterwards, with no actual critique involved. Bring on the Emmy, its all rote.
Here, let me put on my swamy hat and predict ... both sides will claim victory, based on wildly different criteria. The ultra-insane-righties have already conceded anything that could be construed as victory in a "debate", because Kerry is an admittedly excellent debater. Hmmm, who would have thunk it? But yet Bush will win, I guarantee it, because he will show himself to be resolute and strong in demeaner. The left will claim victory, because Kerry will prove that he actually knows what the f*ck he's talking about, but it won't matter because he's really just a flip-flopper who talks good but hasn't done the President's job for Bush already, so ... we really can't trust him.
This will be a joke, a con, a display of melodrama, and most of all, an insult to the American people. We aren't even allowed to see that Kerry is taller than Bush, because .... why again? (Well its simple, Rob, polls show that American people will vote more readily for a taller candidate, and to show that Kerry is taller would put the incumbant, who has every other advantage, at a slight disadvantage, and that would disrespect the Commander in Chief and Lord of the Free World who kicks ass and is beloved by the American people and Iraqis alike). Really, who buys this fucking line of crap?
I don't wish to insult, but am I the only one who remembers people like Daniel Webster? People like David Crockett? People like John Kennedy? People who were not afraid to lead, with words and deeds? What will air tonight is a disgusting travesty, puppet men on a plastic stage.
In an absolute clash of ideologies, Kerry would crush Bush. I say this with absolute confidence because Bush is the incumbant, a failed and incompetant non-leader. He's a flim-flam man, a frat clown who has accomplished nothing save getting elected and surrounding himself with capable pirates. Many forces on the Republican side seem to lust for Kerry's blood over his Senate voting record, but their balls shrivel into their chest cavities at the very thought of a head to head debate in front of the American people. So, please be satisfied with the corruption of another powerful tool of American democracy. Debate is dead, and the word means nothing.
I think I'll watch something more significant and poignant tonight ... like a Revlon commercial.
