The Only New Years Predictions That Matter
Without further ado:
Dallas at Carolina
The Panthers are the schizophrenic power football team of the year, sometimes unstobable, sometimes as limp as milktoast. Dallas can be reckless on offense, which should play to Carolina's strengths on defense, but there is nothing reckless about that Dallas defense. Edge to the Tuna, and his ability to get his guys ready for a playoff game.
Dallas - 16, Carolina - 13 (My niece disagrees. She predicts Panthers - 16, Dallas - 10)
Seattle at Green Bay
Seattle appears to be gasping for life, at the same time that Green Bay is showing superpowers. This Packer team is not the same one we saw in November.
Bart Starr Brett Farve is hitting a multitude of receivers at will, and Ahman Green is just playing possessed. Did I mention that Lambeau field will be very cold this weekend? Green Bay in a walk away.
Seahawks - 13, Packers - 28 ( My niece predicts Green Bay - 21, Seattle - 14)
Tennessee at Baltimore
Understand right from the outset: I hate Art Modell, and I despise his Ravens. That being said, the Ravens have a simple game, crush their opponents, see them driven before them and hear the lamentations of their women. The Titans bring game, and they can very tricksy, but they will wither in front of that huge Offensive line and the running of Jamal Lewis. If there is a game I hope I'm wrong about, this is it.
Tennessee - 14, Baltimore - 24 ( My niece predicts Titans - 31, Ravens - 24)
Denver at Indianapolis
Dungy will have learned a thing or two after last Sunday's rout. Expect more stunts from Indy's defense, and almost no emphasis on Denver's non-existant deep threat. I still consider Payton Manning to be the best quarterback currently playing the game, and his job will be clear: score early and often, because Denver will try and control the clock. However, Mike Shanahan is no idiot. He rested his playmakers against Green Bay, and ran a generic run offense. Kinda makes you wonder what he has up his sleeve for Indy. This game could quite likely come down to a contest between Vanderjagt and Elam.
Broncos - 27, Colts - 24 (My niece predicts Denver - 32, Indy - 21)
There you have it, my first annual online predictions for the NFL Playoffs week one.
